Copper
Copper is expected to play a crucial role in the energy transition.
Global copper inventories are at their lowest level since 2006 thus creating an urgent need for new discoveries.
Project overview
- In the 13th Century B.C. the Phoenicians discovered, and began to work on an enormous mass of cupriferous pyrite in Spain which is still the largest of its type in the world, although it is now regarded primarily as a source of sulfur.
- Subsequently the deposits at Rio Tinto and the neighboring Tharsis in the iberian Pyrite Belt became one of the most important sources of copper.
- Today Spain is the third largest copper producer in Europe (after Russia and Poland) with 149,500 tons of production (2021).
NewEra is reviewing the IGME database of copper occurrences in conjunction with current academic research to generate copper exploration targets.
